MathStar and Summit Design Release Visual Elite SystemC Libraries Targeting The Revolutionary FPOA(TM) Technology

Enable Designers to Develop Ultra-High Performance Reprogrammable Devices with the Simplified NoGates(TM) Design Process

MINNEAPOLIS and BURLINGTON, Mass., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- MathStar, an innovator in high-performance semiconductors, and Summit Design, the world leader in electronic system-level (ESL) design solutions and methodologies, today announced the immediate availability of Visual Elite(TM) SystemC based libraries for MathStar's Silicon Objects(TM) technology. The MathStar libraries enable designers to leverage the productivity and ease-of-use of SystemC ESL tools while targeting their designs at MathStar's revolutionary new family of Field Programmable Object Arrays (FPOAs).

FPOA devices offer a solution to companies caught between the issues of ASIC development cost and the performance limitations of conventional FPGA architectures. The FPOA design process dramatically simplifies conventional chip design flows by using the revolutionary NoGates approach to design. With NoGates, hardware accurate SystemC models from Summit Design's industry-leading Visual Elite are directly mapped into the FPOA architecture. This eliminates synthesis and associated gate-level place and route timing closure steps. The simplified design methodology, coupled with the 1 GHz deterministic clock rate for the FPOA, opens a whole new set of cost-effective, high-performance applications to field programmable products.

"The new MathStar libraries are an important addition to the world of ESL-based design, combining high-level modeling with a direct path to implementation," stated Rami Rachamim, Summit Design's Marketing Director. "They are the first libraries that leverage the power and productivity of Visual Elite and SystemC without requiring any gate-level synthesis or timing closure loops."

"Summit Design SystemC based IDE is an ideal platform to build a next generation design methodology on. Visual Elite is able to provide a comprehensive, hardware accurate, system design environment that we can use to bring applications to market very rapidly," commented Chris Sonnek, MathStar's Engineering VP.

MathStar will target applications domains using customized mixes of object types, on-chip memory resources, and high-performance I/O. Initial target applications will include extreme DSP, wire speed packet processing and aggregation applications in 10 Gbps networking and storage equipment markets.
